Teams from the Baldwin County School System and Gulf Shores City School System met with Alabama Department of Education officials Tuesday in Montgomery as a part of the mediation process for the split between the two school systems.

The Baldwin Times was the only media on site for the meeting, held at State Superintendent Ed Richardson’s office in Montgomery, but was not allowed inside the nearly two-hour meeting for the discussion.

Upon leaving, both sides said they had no comment as Richardson had placed them under a gag order to keep them from discussing what had gone on in the meeting.

Based on previous press releases and statements from both sides, a likely topic of discussion during the meeting with Richardson was the continued contention between Baldwin County and Gulf Shores over the official start date for the new Gulf Shores city system.

No decision was announced following the Tuesday, March 13 meeting with both sides and Richardson’s office had no comment about when a decision could be reached.
