Charles Anton "Chick" Swoboda, 84, passed away Monday, Sept. 11, 2017.

Chick was born in Silverhill at his Uncle Luke and Aunt Ina's home. He grew up on the family farm where he and his family raised chickens and somehow earned his nickname "Chick."

Chick served in the United States Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Because of another job offer, Chick and his family moved to Brewton for only five years only to return to Baldwin County to build a house across the street from where he built his first house. He then accepted the job at Baldwin County Saving and Loan, where he worked until he retired.

In his retirement years he was active with remodeling homes, woodworking, FISHING, telling fishing stories, and was involved with the Silverhill Covenant Church and enjoyed Alabama football.

He was a wonderful dad, grandfather, husband and friend. He enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing, feeding his birds, gardening and sitting in the sunshine.

Mr. Swoboda was preceded in death by his parents, James "Jim" Swoboda Sr. and Martha Lyrene Swoboda; and brothers, Jim Swoboda Jr. and George Swoboda.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria Swoboda; two children, Joanna Swoboda Hubbard (Mitchell) and Michael Anton Swoboda (Tracy); four grandchildren, Jantzen Hubbard, Miranda Smith, Chris Dearborn and Max Dearborn; sister, Louise Passmore; sisters-in-law, Jane Davis and Gaynell Seidenfaden; brothers-in-law, Allen Ard and Robert Ard; many nieces and nephews.
