FAIRHOPE, Ala. – Baldwin County native Grant Enfinger won the 2020 Nextera Energy 250 at Daytona. It was the first NASCAR Truck Series event of the season and the 35-year old from Fairhope was celebrating on victory lane. He edged Jordan Anderson to claim the third NASCAR victory of his career in just his fourth season on the prestigious circuit.

“That was a good one for sure,” he said by phone with GCM Sports. “It got interesting. Daytona is definitely one of the most prestigious races every year and it’s a very special one to win for me. I’m just thankful to be able to bring that one back home and grateful to everybody on the team and for the support from our owners (ThorSport Racing) who made it all possible. It means a lot to get that 100^th win for them and for Ford in the Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series.”

It took a photo finish to decide the official ruling with Enfinger winning by one-one-hundredth of a second in his No. 98 ThorSport Racing Ford 150 at Daytona International Speedway. The season-opening victory also locked him and his team into the seven-race playoff for the 2020 series championship.

Enfinger also won Talladega in 2016 and Las Vegas in 2018. He nearly won Daytona last year but took the silver medal to Austin Hill by 0.278 seconds.

He will fire up his No. 98 Ford 150 Friday night (Feb.21) in Las Vegas in the Strat 200 before the series takes a two-week break.

“I love my job,” he said as he was packing for the trip to Nevada. “I hate to even call it a job, but it is a business, too. It’s a lot of fun, but there’s a lot of moving parts. And it just can’t happen unless you have a really great team behind you.”

After the break they will be closer to home for the Georgia 200. He said Atlanta is one of his favorite tracks.

“It has so much character, even though the asphalt is old and cracked. But, I really love Atlanta. It’s a mile and a half and technically a lot like the other same-size tracks, but it’s unique and completely different from a racer’s standpoint. Just hope the weather is nice. This time of year, it can get wet in a hurry – you just never know.” 

The Strat 200 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set for 9 p.m. Feb. 21.

The Georgia 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway will be Saturday, Mar 14 at 1:30 p.m.
