Former Golden Bear, Alphonso Stewart playing well at UTC

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Former Robertsdale Golden Bear Alphonso Stewart is making a big impact in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's offense this year.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound wide receiver finished with five catches — tied for the team lead — for a team-high 58 yards and a score in the Mocs' 63-7 win over Virginia Military Institute. He had three catches for 48 yards on UTC's first drive, including a 15-yard scoring reception in which he fought through a couple of would-be tacklers for the score. He followed that with a blocked punt on special team duty.

Against Furman, Stewart tallied seven catches for 138 yards and one touchdown.

“Alphonso Stewart had a fantastic game. He had a fantastic week. He’s somebody that has really stepped up for us as a leader. You can see his determination and his will when attacking the football.” — UTC coach Tom Arth

So far in his career Stewart has played in 38 games with seven starts.
