NCAA has cancelled the 2020 Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores

All remaining NCAA scheduled spring championships cancelled as well

GULF SHORES, Ala. - In a joint statement from the city of Gulf Shores and the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission, the decision to cancel the event was released today.

“We are saddened to announce the NCAA has cancelled all winter and spring championships, including the Beach Volleyball Championship in Gulf Shores. They have done this to protect student-athletes, coaches, staffs, families and fans amid COVID-19 concerns. These championships will not be rescheduled for this school year.”

Statement from the city of Gulf Shores:
“We support and respect the NCAA’s decision to cancel the Beach Volleyball National Championship. The safety and welfare of our residents and visitors is our top priority. We appreciate the action taken by the NCAA in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and look forward to continuing our long-term partnership at future championships in Gulf Shores.”


Statement from the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission:
“As an organization that pursues and facilitates sports business from all over the country, we want to ensure the safety of all athletes, families and fans,” said Beth Gendler, vice president of sales for the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission. “We respect the NCAA’s decision to cancel all winter and spring championships. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach is still open for leisure, sports and business travel, and we are monitoring and communicating the guidelines issued by the Alabama Department of Health and the CDC with local tourism-based businesses, beach guests and event planners.”
