Officer Ronnie Saladin named Employee of the Year for Bay Minette

BAY MINETTE, Alabama — Bay Minette Police Officer Ronnie Saladin was named Employee of the Year by the City of Bay Minette.

Saladin serves as the school resource officer at Bay Minette Elementary School and has made a “huge impression with the faculty and students,” Police Chief Al Tolbert wrote on his nomination form. “Officer Saladin is involved with day-to-day activities on campus involving the students. They have built a strong bond and relationships that will last a lifetime.”

In his short time at BMES, Saladin has received local and national recognition after he befriended a student who suffers from a condition that causes him to overheat when outdoors in high temperature conditions. Because of his condition, the student must often remain indoors while his classmates enjoy recess and P.E. classes. Officer Saladin has made the student his "partner" and they now patrol the school together during this time. This partnership has helped the student improve his self-esteem and he has also improved his grades and conduct in the classroom. Chief Tolbert said Officer Saladin has also been known to quietly help fill the needs of other individuals at the school as well.

The Employee of the Year announcement was made at the city’s annual Employee Recognition Luncheon, held at Strike City Lanes.

The City also honored several employees with service pins including: Noreen Perez, Stephanie Sullivan and Lana Palmer, 5 years; Jonathan Hall, Rob Taylor, Victoria Barnett and David A. Johnson, 10 years; Steven Stewart, Greg Reynolds and Kimberly Watson, 15 years; and Rita Diedtrich, 20 years.

Following lunch and presentations, employee teams bowled for bragging rights and the coveted bowling pin trophy. For the third year in a row, the Recreation Department won first place, followed by the Fire Department and Police Department teams. Noreen Perez was the top bowler and Travis Brown was the “Biggest Loser.”
