NASHVILLE, Tennessee — RFD-TV presents “Simply Southern TV,” a new series that explores “Alabama the Beautiful” through stories about agriculture, gardening, rural lifestyle, and rural youth programs. From chasing alligators in Summerdale, Alabama, and canine close calls at Anniston’s K9 Academy — to touring the Orbix Hot Glass studios in the foothills of the Appalachians and the Gulf Coast Zoo — “Simply Southern TV” ventures around the “Heart of Dixie” to explore the people, history, farming communities, rural tourism, educational and events. Produced by the Alabama Farmers Federation and the Alabama Farmers Cooperative, “Simply Southern TV” is a great promotional vehicle to showcase “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Executive producer and co-host Jim Allen, the AFC Public Relations director, is known for his daredevil reporting. Allen has braved knife throwers at Old Town and endured a whip-cracking demonstration with Cowboy Bruce Brannen of Montgomery.

“I’m fired up to be promoting Alabama and surrounding states on television again,” Allen said. “I’ve worked closely with the Federation through the years and, believe me, ‘Simply Southern TV’ is a perfect union of two of the most respected agricultural organizations in the Southeast.”

“This show has been one of the most effective public relations projects the Federation has initiated in the last 20 years,” said Jeff Helms, Federation Communications director and “Simply Southern TV” executive producer. “By offering a mix of stories, we hope to entertain and educate viewers while still appealing to the core membership bases of the Federation and AFC. We’re really looking forward to the new partnership with RFD-TV so we can share the story of farming and rural Alabama with people across the country.”

Additional segments include community and educational events with AFC’s Samantha Carpenter and gardening tips with Sidney Phelps of Bonnie Plants. AFC’s Kevin Worthington serves as director and reporter, Matt Wilson serves as producer, and Mary Johnson co-hosts and reports.

“Simply Southern TV” premiered Tuesday, March 7. Find out more about the show at SimplySouthernTV.net. You can also follow the crew’s adventures on the “Simply Southern TV” Facebook page and Instagram account.
