Two Admirals and two Toros win individual events for state titles

Alivia Busch of Spanish Fort won the state crown in the Class 6A Girls Discus Throw at 117 feet, 6 inches. She also took third in the shot put with a throw of 37-11, three inches short of second and six short of first. Spanish Fort’s Callie Jones won the Class 6A Girls Javelin state title with a toss of 135 feet. SFHS Toro teammate Clara Sabo tied for second in the pole vault at nine feet.
In Class 3A, Bayside’s Girls took first in the state Class 3A, 4 x 400 meter relay finals and third in the 4 x 100. Individually for the Admirals, Amber Mason won the high jump at 16-05. Lauren Chastang won the shot put (5-02.5) and took second in the discus (114-07). Mary Catherine Branyon took third in the 1600-meter run. Caroline Young was third in the pole vault (10.0).
Spanish Fort’s Trae Barry took second in the boys high-jump (6-6) and second in the javelin (177). The Bayside boys took third in the 4 x 800 relay.

2017 girls state champs: Class 7A, Hoover; Class 6A, Homewood; Class 5A, Beauregard; Class 4A, Montgomery Catholic; Class 3A, American Christian; Class 2A, Altamont; Class 1A, Whitesburg Christian.
Bayside Academy took third overall just eight points behind runner up T R Miller.
2017 boys state champs: Class 7A, Hoover; Class 6A, Opelika; Class 5A, Scottsboro; Class 4A, Greensboro; Class 3A, American Christian; Class 2A, Cold Springs; Class 1A, Westminster-Oak Mountain.
