FOLEY - The South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce made the decision on March 30 to postpone this year’s Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival due to the spread of COVID-19.

The festival, originally scheduled for May 1 and 2, will now take place on Aug. 28 and 29. Tickets previously purchased for the May dates will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Those who are unable to attend the new dates can obtain a full refund by contacting the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce at 251-943-3291 or through their Eventbrite account.

“The health and safety of our guests, pilots, volunteers, vendors and sponsors is our highest priority,” said Director of Events Rachel Spear. “After careful consideration, and in light of the ongoing COVID-19 developments, we have decided to postpone the 2020 Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival.”

Gates open on Friday, Aug. 28 at the Foley Soccer Fields at 2 p.m. - 10 p.m., and on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. General admission into the festival is free, and features live entertainment and views of the hot air balloons at dawn and dusk (weather and wind permitting.)

Parking and shuttle service will be available at OWA between 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Cost is $2 per person for round trip. Children 12 and under ride free.

Eight balloons will give tethered rides to those who have purchased a ticket, wind and weather permitting. No refunds will be allowed in the event of high winds or weather.

“We are very thankful to our partnership with the City of Foley and OWA for allowing us to make the changes needed to postpone this great community event. We hope to see you at the 2020 Gulf Coast Hot Air Balloon Festival in August,” said Spear.

The event features over 50 hot air balloons and tons of crafts, entertainment, and food options. Visit www.gulfcoastballoonfestival.com for up to date information or to purchase VIP, Parking or Tethered Ride passes.
