OB Garden Club hosting 30th annual Game Day event Feb. 15

The Orange Beach Garden Club is celebrating its 30th annual Game Day and Salad Luncheon fundraising event, and organizers say this year’s game day is set to be the best one yet.

This year’s game day is set to be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Orange Beach Event Center at The Wharf.

Susan Giannini, the Ways and Means chairperson for the Orange Beach Garden Club, said due to the popularity of last year’s event, the club was able to give even more back to the community.

“Because last year’s game day was such a success, we were able to increase our charities this year,” Giannini said. “We now give donations to the Orange Beach Police Department to sponsor community programs, the Gulf Coast Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation program, a new program at the Orange Beach Elementary School to help instill confidence, good citizenship and helpful attitudes among students.”

Giannini said the club also increased the money given for college scholarships available to Gulf Shores High School students.

The proceeds also go to help support the Orange Beach Elementary School Junior Gardeners program, community Arbor Day events, the Orange Beach Police Benevolent Fund, Southern Gulf Coast Animal Rescue, the Orange Beach Elementary School Beautification Action Team, the Yard of the Month Awards and the Light Up Orange Beach Christmas Awards.

Giannini said she’s hopeful this will be another record year for the event, especially in light of its 30th anniversary.

“We really want this year’s event to be successful,” Giannini said. “We had such a great crowd last year, and we hope the community will come out in such large numbers again this year.”

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the OB Emporium in the Winn-Dixie Shopping Center and at J&M Tackle on Canal Road.
