BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Parker High School junior Jason King’s 3-point basket at the end of regulation tied the Class 6A boys’ semifinal game in the 95th AHSAA State Basketball Championships at the BJCC Legacy Arena. King then completed the come-from-behind effort with a dunk in overtime as the Thundering Herd (28-7) beat Spanish Fort 69-59 to advance to the state finals Saturday at 2:15 p.m.


Coach Dru Powell’s Toros (25-9) had balanced scoring with four players in double figures. Terrin Atkinson, Kris Abrams-Draine and Jalen Wayne each scored 13 points each Trae Barry had 12. Jeric Packer had six rebounds while Atkinson and Michael Meador each had three assists and three steals.


Parker, coached by Reginald McGary, will play Paul Bryant in the finals. 
King finished with 16 points for the Herd. Cam’Ron Beard had a game-high 23 points. He finished with three 3-point goals and also handed out six assists. Xavier Williams also had 14 points and 11 rebounds and Eugene Minter scored 11.


In the overtime, Spanish Fort got back within one point at, 60-59, on a Draine 3-pointer, but Parker scored the final nine points and secured the win. Paul Bryant High took a 70-57 semifinal win over Austin Wednesday. The PBHS Stampede (23-11) of Coach Sean Peck-Love won their 12th game in a row and will meet the Herd in the championship game which will be played Saturday at 2:15 p.m.

The finals will be televised live and live-streamed by Raycom Sports. The AHSAA Radio Network is also broadcasting all games over its statewide radio network and internet link. The 2017 AHSAA State Basketball Championship finals in Class 1A will be held Thursday, March 2 and championships for boys and girls in Classes 2A, 3A and 4A are scheduled for Friday with Class 5A, 6A and 7A finals set for Saturday’s final day.
