Cotton Bayou access and intersection get facelift

The State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has announced that in preparation of the new traffic signal and expansion of the parking lot, Cotton Bayou Beach Access Park will be closed beginning Feb. 6.

This will include the entrance, the parking lot, the bathrooms, the showers and the boardwalks. The park is anticipated to be closed for 2 to 3 months for a parking lot expansion project.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced that a new traffic signal has been installed and will be in service at the Cotton Bayou Boat Launch intersection beginning Feb. 7. This will mean that the left turn lanes, turning north from Perdido Beach Boulevard onto Highway 161, will be permanently eliminated.

The left turn movement will be accommodated at the new signal to the east at Cotton Bayou. While these new changes will take some getting used to, all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are asked to be alert and patient.
