Gulf Shores monitoring potential weather situation

GULF SHORES, AL - The City of Gulf Shores officials urge residents to get a hurricane preparedness plan in place if they haven’t already done so. For resources to create your personal preparedness plan visit www.gulfshoresal.gov/safe.

According to the National Hurricane Center a weak area of low pressure located near the central Bahamas continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms mainly to the south and east of its center. Upper-level winds are not conducive for significant development during the next day or so while the low moves west-northwestward through the Straits of Florida at about 10 mph.

Environmental conditions could become a little more conducive for some development when the system moves across the eastern Gulf of Mexico next week.

Gulf Shores residents should have already received a hurricane re-entry decal for their vehicle. Businesses may also purchase re-entry placards. In the event of an emergency where areas of Gulf Shores are evacuated, these decals serve to identify those who should be allowed into restricted area(s) at the appropriate time.

Re-entry decals can be obtained by residents at City Hall 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday. Anyone wishing to obtain a re-entry decal must show proof of residency or property ownership in the form of a deed, lease or utility bill along with a valid driver’s license for identification.

In accordance to the City of Gulf Shores Resolution 5642-16, once a Hurricane Warning has been issued for the Gulf Shores Area, re-entry decals are no longer distributed to any residents, businesses or other entities.
