Two RHS students receive Wasp scholarships

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — The Kandice L. Wasp Memorial Scholarship Committee, celebrating 30 years, presented its 2016 annual award to Kayla Marie Jones and Rebekah Lomax, graduates of Robertsdale High School.

Kayla Marie Jones is the daughter of Bert and Beverly Jones of Silverhill. She was active in the National Honor Society, yearbook editor-in-chief, member of Mu Alpha Theta (math club) and S.I.S. (Students Inspiring Students Club) and member of Interact Club (community volunteer club). Other extracurricular activities included church worship leader for K-fourth grade students, special needs peer helper and math tutor and Prodisee Pantry worker.

Her college preference is Judson College, a women's Christian college, located in Marion majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish and missiology. Her ultimate goal is pre-med at UAB specializing in pediatrics.

Rebekah Lomax is the daughter of Brian and Melanie Lomax of Loxley. She was active in the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (math club), SGA Senior Class representative, member of Interact Club (community volunteer club), ESL Spanish tutor, Future Teachers of Alabama and Model United Nations. Social awards and honors included: Distinguished Young Women of Baldwin County second runner-up; and National Honor Society parliamentarian. Other extracurricular activities included Strawberry Festival volunteer and Covenant Care volunteer.

Her college preference is Auburn University, majoring in biomedical sciences and furthering her education in the field of pharmacy at the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University.

The scholarship, given annually to former Silverhill school students, is sponsored by the Silverhill PTA along with contributions from the Wasp family and friends.
