DAPHNE, Ala. — Bayside's Paige Hammele scored the Admirals' only goal in regulation then made the match winning stop in goal in triple overtime for the win. Down 1-0 at halftime, Hammele scored the equalizer for Bayside Academy with 15 minutes left in regulation with a header off a corner by Cate Kasuba.

Two overtime periods and one shootout later, Hammele also made the match-winning save for the Admirals at Freedom Field. With the 2-1 playoff win the Bayside girls (10-11-2) advance to the Class 1A-3A second round Saturday.

“The girls played great to start the playoffs, said Bayside coach Ali LeBlanc. “In spite of being riddled with injuries all year, the girls have settled in and found ways to make it work.”

Admirals’ coach Andy Arick works with keepers and said that a shoulder injury forced Hammelle out of the net earlier this year.

“Paige is a special player. She played in the field in the game, but for the shootout I thought she would be effective for us in goal. She's always willing to do what we ask and it was great to see her have a decisive save,” he said.

“To get here and get the results we need, it's more about us having resilience as a team than just putting goals in the back of the net. Tonight she exemplified that resilience the whole team is showing.”

BOYS: Bayside 7, Providence 0

The Admirals unleashed the cannons early to take a 4-0 lead into halftime. Bayside then added three more to shutout perennial playoff rival Providence Christian 7-0.

Sergi Cebrian-Claramunt and Henry Wise had two goals each, Dawson Jellenc and Robert Sullivan added one each.

Tonight we clicked and had great patterns of play with some great individual performances as well,” said Bayside coach Jamie Ferguson. “Moved the ball crisply, distributed the ball well in the back and kept the intensity up.

“Their goal keeper (Garrison Wise) played a good game and kept it at nil-nil for a while. He had some nice saves but we were dynamic with our movement and he couldn't be everywhere. There were things we could have done better but we did do a lot of things well and did well together.”
