• Spanish Fort clinches Class 6A Area 2 top seed

DAPHNE—The Class 6A second-ranked Spanish Fort (41-4) Toros held off a late Daphne Trojan rally 3-1 for a perfect 8-0 (6A Area 2) record and will host the upcoming Area 2 tournament. Class 6A fifth-ranked Daphne came back from an 0-2 deficit to win game three and nearly forced a fifth set. The Toros dominated games one and two and went on to win 25-12, 25-13, 22-25, 26-24.

Carley Hamric led the Toros at the net with 12 kills, one block and added three digs. Savannah Lee scored 9 kills, 18 digs and 2 aces; Taylor Fontenelle had 20 digs and 2 aces ; Carissa Jones added 6 kills, 11 digs, 4 aces and Reilly Vought set for 27 assists with 2 blocks, 5 kills and 16 digs.

In Class 3A top-ranked Bayside Academy topped Class 7A top-ranked McGill-Toolen Catholic for the 2016 Margaret Blalock Tournament championship title in Homewood. It was the second win over the Dirty Dozen this season, but Mc-T bounced back earlier this week with a five set comeback victory over the Admirals in Daphne.

The Admirals (48-5) went up 2-0 but dropped the next three tightly scored games as the Dozen battled back to win 20-25, 17-25, 27-25, 25-18 and 15-13. Kenya McQuirter had 15 kills to lead Mc-T. Kirsten Carter added 13, Sofia Bruno had 34 digs, Mary Coye Ward had 17 digs and Jaylin Daffin 14. Millie Andrews had 32 assists and Lillie Fromdahl added 17.

Bayside was led by Lauren Chastang with 13 kills, Ariel Dulaney and Brantley Rhodes had nine kills each and Kailin Morris had 19 digs and Ansleigh Dailey had 37 assists. Chastang surpassed the 2,000 career mark last week against Area 1 rival Mobile Christian to clinch the Class 3A, Area 1 title.

At Homewood, Dailey had 151 assists, Chastang had 67 kills and 52 digs, Dulaney had 52 kills and 61 digs and Rhodes had 10 aces, 43 kills with 10 blocks.
