DAPHNE, Ala. — No. 1 ranked Class 7A McGill-Toolen Catholic improved to 35-7 with a 3-0 sweep at No. 5 ranked Class 6A Daphne (25-9) Tuesday. The Trojans battled deep into each set, but Mc-T finished each game with a flurry of unanswered points down the stretch to win the best-of-five, inter-class match 25-20, 25-22, 25-21.
Kirsten Carter led the Dirty Dozen's attack with 10 kills, Sophia Bruno came up with 17 digs and Lillie Fromdahl had 21 set assists.
Daphne was led by Bri Turner and Sydney Omtvedt with nine kills each while Natalie Omtvedt added seven kills, three service aces and had 11 digs. Sydney Omtvedt had nine digs and Keila Adams added eight. Haleigh Houser had 25 set assists for the Trojans.
Both teams are playing the Blalock tournament in Homewood this weekend. On Tuesday, the Dozen visits No. 1 Class 3A Bayside (40-4) while Daphne will host No. 2 Class 6A Spanish Fort (32-4).
