The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is kicking off a new program called After School Adventures Program Sept. 14 – Oct. 2.
To better support the community, the Zoo will extend its operating hours until 6 p.m Monday through Friday. With Zoo admission, a free daily adventure program will occur from 4:30 to 5:30 and feature a fun and educational activity. The Zoo is encouraging families to purchase zoo memberships, which allow you to take full advantage of the program by visiting as often as you wish.
Joel Hamilton, the Zoo’s Executive Director, says, “The COVID crisis created many challenges for parents, students, and teachers. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo hopes the After School Adventures program will provide uplifting support as they navigate these difficult times.”
Each afternoon will feature a unique program:
Magic Monday will highlight one of the Zoo’s most popular animal ambassadors--Magic, the 11-foot yellow anaconda, and other amazing reptiles.
Celebrity Tuesday will feature the Zoo’s social media stars – Bruce Quillis, Kevin Bacon, or Piggy Smalls.
Wacky Wednesday will highlight a free ticket to one of the Zoo’s amusement rides.
Giraffe Thursday is all about the Zoo’s tallest members; learn about giraffes and get to feed Benjamin or Akayla.
Feathered Friday is for the birds. Guests will enjoy up-close encounters & keeper chats with the Zoo’s feathered friends.
The Zoo’s goal is to support parents by providing them with outdoor options for after school activities while introducing children to the world of animals and engaging young minds in a fun, educational experience. The Zoo is the perfect place for social distancing with over 25-acres to roam. After their zoo visit, families can check out the specials at Safari Club restaurant located next door to the Zoo.
The mission of the not-for-profit Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo is to create compelling experiences that connect people and communities with wildlife and inspire personal responsibility for the conservation of the natural world. Established in 1989
