Alvin Laverne Logan Sr., 96, a lifetime resident of the Mobile area, died Tuesday August 4, at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette where he had resided for the past six years. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Crichton, Alabama, to Daniel Grover Logan and Florence Emma Broadus Logan, descendants of some of the earliest French settlers of Mobile as well as Cherokee heritage. He and Lois Morris were married in 1941. She died in 2007. He was also predeceased by their sons Alvin Logan Jr and Danny Logan, as well as his 3 older brothers and 3 younger sisters: Earl, Carl ("Bud"), Norman, Ruth Norris ("Sis"), Voncile Cato, and. Florence Bowen. He is survived by his brother Murray Logan of Fairhope; daughters Mrs. Betty Gay (Asa) Waters of Orlando FL, Mrs. Linda (Bruce) Palmer, Ocean Springs MS, and Ms. Anita Bennett of Gautier MS; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends. Mr. Logan was a roofer, sheet metal worker and refrigeration mechanic. He worked at Brookley Field in Mobile in the 1940s and 1950s, and was acting superintendent of construction of the nuclear power plant in Dothan, AL in the 1970s and 1980s. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union in Mobile, retiring in 1988. During World War II he served in the Philippines with the Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of Corporal, and was missing in action for several months. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon and Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Visitation will be held Sunday, August 9, 2020 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 10, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the Alabama State Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Spanish Fort.
