Annual Plow Days returns to Summerdale

Posted

Love farm machinery? Enjoy history? Head over to the Annual Plow Days held in Summerdale Friday and Saturday, June 2-3.

The event is hosted each summer by the South Alabama Antique Tractor and Engine Club. The organization was founded to preserve the rich culture of agriculture and bring history education to life for younger generations.

Plow Days exhibits are anything but static. This is a working farm show with plowing, threshing, corn grinding, music and much more!

“People collect equipment over the years, and it is part of history. I like seeing the way they were before,” said Jason Bartlett, first year member of the SAATEC. “A tractor is an evolved product and changes us from an older society to where we are today.”

The goal of the show is to display all types of items and activities relating to farming. This includes the exhibition of antique tractors as all other types of farm related equipment.

“It shows people what life was like,” Bartlett said. “It takes a step back to that time in Baldwin County and history in general. The area has changed so much since then and it's a time in history for people to see what it was like.

“It's also for people who like old tractors. I think the history thing is the biggest benefit to the community,” he said.

The event will take place at George Underwood Farm, 1 ½ miles south of Summerdale on County Road 71 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit the website at http://saatec.org.

There is a $5 per car donation.
