ROBERTSDALE, Alabama -- More than 400 evacuees from Florida were sheltered over the weekend at the Baldwin County Coliseum in Robertsdale.
The Baldwin County Commission voted during an emergency meeting on Thursday, Sept. 7 to open the shelter for five days, serving those escaping from the path of Hurricane Irma.
Coordinated by Baldwin County EMA, the shelter is staffed with volunteers from the American Red Cross.
Several local area churches, community and civic groups donated food and other necessary items for evacuees.
The shelter was scheduled to remain open through Tuesday but could be extended if necessary.
