BAY MINETTE - The Baldwin County High Tigers romped past visiting Northview of Dothan 35-15 Friday before a big home crowd in Bay Minette.

Coach Nathan McDaniel's Tigers spotted the visiting Cougars an early 6-0 lead before outscoring NHS 35-9 the rest of the way.

BCHS got touchdowns from Nathan Barnes (63 yard run), Chris Hooks (7 yard run), a Chase Overstreet to K.J. Thomas 28 yard pass, K.J. Thomas (8 yard run), and a one-yard run by Hooks. Dalton Coleman converted the extra points after each touchdown.

Northview got a Nick McCarthy to Raymond Love 31-yard touchdown pass, a 35-yard field goal by Jack Martin, and a five-yard scoring run from Mason Wakefield.

The BCHS defense had some big plays as Bernard Porter, Will Dobbins, Johnathon Hood and the rest tightened up after the early score.

Hooks and Overstreet took turns leading the Tiger offense as last year's starter at quarterback, Eli Powell, sat out the game with an injury.

The Cougars went 85 yards on a 13-play drive to open the contest.

McCarthy had some key completions in the drive and capped it with his 31-yard TD pass to Love with 7:09 left in quarter number one. The point after was wide but the visitors led 6-0.

BCHS came right back, marching 73 yards in just three plays. A 63-yard burst up the middle by Barnes tied the score and Coleman's PAT made it 7-6 with 5:53 left in the first stanza.

A long punt return early in the second period by Hooks went for a score but a clipping penalty negated half the return. McDaniel's troops then went 36 yards in four plays to up their advantage. Michael French had a nine-yard run, Overstreet rambled 23 yards, Barnes gouged out two yards and Hooks went the final seven with 9:30 left in the half. The kick gave the Tigers a 14-6 lead.

Overstreet's 28-yard scoring aerial to Thomas capped another long drive and Coleman's kick with 2:29 in the half, made it 21-6.

Jack Martin of Northview booted a 35-yard three pointer midway through the third but a seven yard run by Thomas pushed the Tigers’ lead to 28-9.

Wakefield's five yard run with just 4:03 left got the Cougars closer at 28-15 but Hooks made it 35-15 on a one-yard plunge. That followed a 39-yard interception return by Porter with 1:37 remaining.

BCHS remains at home next Friday, hosting 6A Region 1 foe Gulf Shores in a 7 p.m. game at Simmons Field/Lyle Underwood Stadium in Bay Minette.
