Tigers roar to homecoming win, Golden Bears still looking for first win

BAY MINETTE, Ala. — The Baldwin County Tigers took a 44-6 Class 6A, Region 1 win over Robertsdale High Friday night in Bay Minette to improve to 2-2 in league play and post a 4-2 overall record at mid-season.

Chase Overstreet led the Tigers with two touchdown passes and a 45-yard touchdown run on homecoming night at Lyle Underwood Stadium. Eli Powell, who has been recovering from an injury, also threw a Tiger touchdown pass to Chris Hooks good from seven yards out.

K.J. Thomas and Brendan Welch also caught touchdown tosses for the Tigers. Tony Gray also had a rushing touchdown while picking 94 yards on the ground. On defense, Trevor Davis had a pick-six interception that was returned for a Baldwin County touchdown.

Earlier in the week, Overstreet was recognized for his AHSAA Prep Spotlight (AHSAA.com/news) performance at Alma Bryant High last week where he was 15-of-24 passing for 196 yards and four touchdowns for BCHS as the Tigers beat Class 7A Alma Bryant 35-14.

The Tigers will host Class 6A Saraland’s Spartans (3-2, 4-3) in a pivotal Region 1 match up this Friday, Oct. 7. The Spartans will be coming to BCHS after a 42-7 Region 1 win over Gulf Shores (0-7), while the Golden Bears (0-6) will travel looking for their first win of 2016 at Class 6A Region 1 opponent B.C. Rain (2-2, 3-3) at Trimmier Park. Kickoffs are set for 7 p.m.

Senior class maids for BCHS Homecoming 2016 were: Kylie Warren, Morgan Tuberville, Micah Murphy, Queen Jayda Cox, Mary Watson and Maggie Diehl.
