Five new members and one associate to join Tigers 26th HOF class

BAY MINETTE, Ala.— Baldwin County High and the BCHS Athletic Hall of Fame have announced the HOF Class of 2016.

Five new members plus a new associate will join the BCHS Hall of Fame in the 26th class since the Hall of Fame welcomed the inaugural group in 1991.

This year's inductions will take place in a ceremony at the Bay Minette Elementary School cafeteria on Friday, Aug. 26 at 5:15 p.m. Following the inductions, the new class will be introduced to the public during halftime of the BCHS-Gulf Shores game at nearby Simmons Field/Lyle Underwood Stadium.

The new Class of 2016 is comprised of Hal Hardy (1990), Jerry Oliver (1979), LaBarryon Anderson (2000), Vivian Thompson (1991), Kelly Hargett (2002) and associate Junius Long.

Hal Hardy graduated from Baldwin County High in 1990. He played football and soccer at B.C.H.S. In soccer, he was captain of the soccer team 1986-1990, and was name to the All-County and All-Area soccer team. He was captain of the Alabama State Soccer Team Olympics Development Program 1986-1990. At BCHS, he was president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (1988-1990), Vice-President of the Key Club (1989-1990), a member of Bay Minette Belles and Beaus, and the oral communication class. After high school, he attended the University of Mobile where he was captain of the men’s soccer team in 1992-1993. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Mobile. He is founder of the Highlands Church and is a conference speaker. Hal and his wife, Sondra reside in Cumming, Georgia. They have two daughters.

Jeremiah Oliver graduated from BCHS. in 1979. Jeremiah was a three sport letterman at Baldwin County High, receiving letters in football, basketball, and track. He was the leading rusher and scorer on his football team, where he rushed for 1,200 yards his senior year. In football, Jeremiah was named to the All-County team for 2 years, named to the first team All-State team, and the Super All-State team. He played in the 1979 Alabama High School All-Star football game. In track, he was named to the All-County team. Jeremiah received a football scholarship to the University of Alabama. Athletic participation after high school included the College of the Sequois and the semi-pro Lakeport Packers. Achievements and recognition after high school included the United States military. Jeremiah has five children and four grandchildren.

LaBarryon Anderson graduated from Baldwin County High in 2000. He was a two sport letterman at BCHS, four years in both football and basketball. In his junior year, he was named to the football All-County team and the All-Area team. In his senior year, he was named to the football All-County team, All-Area team, and the All-State team. In football, he was the leading tackler in his junior and senior year and received the Most Valuable Player award. In basketball, he was an outstanding player receiving many honors including the All-County team. LaBarryon received a scholarship to Delta State. Achievements and recognitions after high school included serving in the United States Army. He and his wife, Bridgett reside in Bay Minette. They have three children.

Vivian Thompson graduated from BCHS in 1991. She was a three sport letterman at BCHS, receiving letters in volleyball, basketball, and track. In volleyball, the Lady Tigers won the Area 4A volleyball tournament, and Vivian was voted Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She was named to the All-County volleyball team, she received the BCHS. Most Valuable Player award, and was selected for the Junior Olympics. She was an outstanding player on the basketball and track teams receiving the Most Valuable Player award in basketball and the Most Outstanding Female Track award. At Baldwin County High, she was class favorite and class maid for 3 years, 1991 Homecoming Queen, and a Key Club favorite. Vivian was an outstanding student in the classroom, and her senior class chose her as “Most Likely to Succeed”, “Most Athletic”, and “Most Popular”. Vivian received a volleyball scholarship to Faulkner State Community College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. After leaving Faulkner State, she went to Troy State where she was the first black female to make the Trojan volleyball team. In 1994, she graduated from nursing school. Vivian and her husband, Andre resides in Pensacola, Fla. They have four children.

Kelly Hargett graduated from Baldwin County High in 2002. She was a three-sport letterman at B.C.H.S., four years in volleyball and softball, and two years in basketball. In volleyball, she was captain of the team in 2001, named to the All-County team for four years, the All-Area team in 2001, and the 6A Coaches All-State Selection team in 2000 and 2001. She was selected as a member of the Mobile Press Register Super 12 volleyball team in 2000 and 2001. In softball, she was named to the All-County team for three years, selected as a member of the Mobile Press Register Super 12 softball team in 2002, and selected as the Baldwin County Defensive Player of the Year. At B.C.H.S., she was Valedictorian of the Class of 2002, a member of the National Honor Society, Kiwanis Senior Athlete of the Year, and voted ‘Most Athletic” by her senior class. Hargett received an athletic scholarship and played four years of volleyball for Spring Hill College. At Spring Hill College, she received many honors which include: NAIA All-Conference team in 2005; Spring Hill Classic All-Tournament team in 2005; and Athletic All-Academic team in 2004 and 2005. She is in the record books at Spring Hill College for most digs in a single season. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in business management from Spring Hill and a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of South Alabama. Kelly is currently the head volleyball coach at Alma Bryant High School. She resides in Mobile, Ala.

Junius Long was selected as an associate member of the Hall of Fame. He graduated from Baldwin County High in 1962.

He played football for four years and ran track for four years, and he was chosen as the captain of the football team his senior year. In his senior year, he received the Most Outstanding Back award and was All-County honorable mention. He has been a strong supporter of Baldwin County High for many years making many donations of materials and time.

Some of his projects include: donated and installed present lighting at Simmons Field; donated all electrical for athletic fieldhouse; donated and installed lighting for soccer field; installed first air conditioning units at old high school and elementary school; donated and installed lighting for walking track at the new high school; and was electrical contractor for the new high school. He coached city league football for 15 years. Junius and his wife, Mary reside in Bay Minette. They have four children and six grandchildren.
