SCOOBA, Miss. – East Mississippi Community College sophomore Mike Farnell, who played at Spanish Fort High has been named to the 2017 MACJC All-State Baseball Team, as voted on by the respective head baseball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.

A two-year starting catcher for Coach Chris Rose's EMCC Lions, Farnell ranked sixth among MACJC leaders with a team-high 10 home runs this season. Along with hitting .380, including 23 extra-base hits and 26 walks, Farnell topped EMCC in slugging percentage (.701) and on-base percentage (.476) as a sophomore. He ranked second on the club with 36 runs batted in, 52 hits and 12 doubles in helping lead the 25-20 Lions to a 15-13 conference mark and an appearance in the MACJC best-of-three playoff series against NJCAA Division II World Series entry Hinds Community College.

A native of Spanish Fort, Ala., Farnell batted .364 and slugged at a .628 clip during his two-year stint with the Lions. In addition to hitting 13 career home runs and 20 doubles, he drove home 62 runs in 76 career games played at East Mississippi.

• Salter named to All-State first team, NJCAA All-Region second team

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College right-handed, sophomore pitcher JT Salter of Bay Minette (Baldwin County High) was named to the MACJC All-State First Team and the NJCAA Region 23 Second Team. He finished tied for 16th nationally in strikeouts. The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has announced.

Salter wrapped up his sophomore campaign with a 3.31 ERA with 84 strikeouts and 32 walks while giving up 45 hits resulting in 30 runs, 24 earned, to finish 7-2 on the year in 65.1 innings of work. He earned back-to-back MACJC Pitcher of the Week honors and was named NJCAA Pitcher of the Week.

Salter committed to Coach Greg Goff and the University of Alabama baseball program in May.

After two years in Fulton, Salter finished his career with a 3.89 ERA with 126 strikeouts to 59 walks in 104 innings pitched. He surrendered 54 runs, 45 earned, on 78 hits to finish with a 12-3 career record.

The Indians finished 31-16 on the season and hosted an opening round best of three series in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament
