BAY MINETTE, Alabama — A Bay Minette man is in jail on first degree rape charges following a sex abuse allegation by a parent of a child under 12.

According to a release issued Thursday by the Bay Minette Police Department, 29-year-old Corneise Colins Payne of Bay Minette was being held in the Baldwin County Corrections Facility in Bay Minette and is awaiting a bond hearing.

On Feb. 7, BMPD was made aware of a sex abuse allegation and through the course of an investigation developed probable cause to arrest Payne, alleging that he had "forceable" sex with a minor child under 12, according to the release.

An arrest warrant was issued for Payne July 17 and he was arrested for that outstanding warrant on Thursday in Atmore. He was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to the Corrections Facility website.

This investigation is ongoing.
