Billy Roy Clarke passed away May 31, 2017 at Covenant Care, Pensacola, Florida after a short illness. He was 82 years old.

Billy was born Oct. 15, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi. He attended Jackson Central High, where he was an outstanding athlete.

He continued this trait for 50 years as a great tennis player, winning many tournaments.

Billy served in the U.S. Army for two years in Germany before attending Mississippi College where he received his degree. After college, he worked for the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson where he was a much loved mentor to many children.

Billy then started to work for SafeCo Insurance Co. in Nashville, Tennessee.

He next moved to Gulf Shores to open his own Gulf Shores Insurance Agency. He served his community in many capacities, including a board member and officer of the Gulf Shores Chamber of Commerce. After suffering a heart attack in 1986, he sold his agency and concentrated on his real estate interests, with a brief stint raising cattle and watermelons on his farm.

Billy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances; two sons, Billy and Scott Clarke; sister, Betty Ann Foster; sister-in-law, Betty Clarke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His brother, George H. Clarke, preceded him in death.

Services will be held June 17 at Pine Rest Memorial Park on Highway 98 in Foley, Alabama.

Visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with graveside services following.

The family suggests memorial donations to a favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
