A single-vessel crash Thursday, Aug. 4, claimed one life and injured another. Luke Sheppard Johnson, 25, of Fairhope was killed when the 12-foot Tom Boy boat he was operating struck a sea wall sometime after midnight on Fish River near Isle of Pines Drive. Johnson, who was not wearing a personal flotation device (PFD) was ejected from the vessel and pronounced dead at the scene. The vessel’s female passenger, who was injured in the crash, was transported to South Baldwin Regional Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The preliminary investigation indicates that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers from the Marine Patrol Division continue to investigate.
