Byrne Announces 2019 Service Academy Nominations

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) announced his service academy nominations. As a Member of Congress, Congressman Byrne can nominate students from Alabama’s First Congressional District for appointment to the United States Air Force, Naval, Military (West Point), and Merchant Marine Academies.

Congressman Byrne said: “Throughout the long history of the United States, countless Americans have served our country honorably in the military. Alabama’s role in the defense of our nation, both past and present, is something we should all take immense pride in.

“There is truly no greater honor than serving one’s country, and I am honored each year to nominate outstanding young individuals from Southwest Alabama to attend our nation’s military service academies. These outstanding nominees have proven themselves both in the classroom and in their communities. I commend them for their choice to serve our great nation, and I wish them all the best in the years ahead.”

The following students received an official nomination from Congressman Byrne to attend a U.S. Service Academy:

Sam Alkema, from Bayshore Christian School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy. He is the son of Kathleen and David Alkema.

James Blane, from Riverside Military Academy, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy, United States Naval Academy, United States Air Force Academy, and the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He is the son of Tatiana and Milton Blane.

Jon Duke, from Murphy High School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy. He is the son of Judith and Russell Duke.

Brendan Dye, from Baker High School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy, and the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of Kelli and Michael Dye.

Sam Honeycutt, from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, received a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He is the son of Shannon and Walter Honeycutt.

Webb Hutchinson, from Fairhope High School, received a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He is the son of Lori and Scott Hutchinson.

Madison Johnson, from Fairhope High School, received a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the United States Naval Academy. She is the daughter of Suzanne and Allen Johnson.

Bailee Jordan, from Baker High School, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy. She is the daughter of Paula and Wayne Jordan.

Collin Laird, from Robertsdale High School, received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of Marsha and Russell Laird.

Robbins Manning, from Excel High School and currently attending Marion Military Institute, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy and United Merchant Marine Academy. He is the son of Joanna and Reid Manning.

Griffin Maxwell, from Spanish Fort High School, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy and the United States Naval Academy. He is the son of Shelly Hunt and Michael Maxwell.

Molly McVay, from Spanish Fort High School, received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy. She is the daughter of Angela and Steven McVay.

Cody Mooney, from Fairhope High School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy. He is the son of Ashleigh and Steven Mooney.

Joshua Pruitt, from Baker High School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy. He is the son of Sheila and Joaquin Pruitt.

Conrad Reetz, from Gulf Shores High School, received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of Kelly and Roger Reetz.

Cade Sahr, from Foley High School, received a nomination to the United States Air Force Academy. He is the son of April and Bart Sahr.

Liam Sasser, from McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, received a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy and the United States Military Academy. He is the son of Cindy and William Sasser.

Cory Sims, from Fairhope High School, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy. He is the son of Margie and Robert Sims.

Morgan Solchenberger, from the Alabama School of Math and Science, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy. He is the son of Jenna Tarziers and Leonard Solchenberger.

Chandler Street, from Upperman High School and currently attending Bethel University, received a nomination to the United States Merchant Marine Academy. He is the son of Ashley Browning and Tim Street.

Caiman Wagner, from Spanish Fort High School, received a nomination to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy. He is the son of Stacy and John Wagner.

Melanie Yell, from Mary G. Montgomery Academy, received a nomination to the United States Military Academy. She is the daughter of Elizabeth and Brian Yell.

Eligible applicants must be at least 17 years old, be a citizen of the United States, have good moral character, demonstrate strong leadership skills, and achieve impressive scholastic achievements.

Congressman Byrne is only responsible for nominating students to the service academies. The final decision on appointments rests solely with the academy.
