FOLEY - Geocaching is the recreational activity of hunting for and finding a hidden object by means of GPS coordinates posted on a website. It is also a fun and interesting family hobby. The City of Foley hosts a Foley Geo Weekend each year in late February or early March. This year was the fifth year to have a weekend of events and over 70 attendees made it to all the events.

On Friday, March 9, 2018, a Meet & Greet event was held at the El Paso Mexican Grill restaurant in Foley. Geocachers shared stories and gained information about the events planned for the weekend. A good meal was also shared and a few prizes were given out as well.

On Saturday, March 10, 2018, a Geolympics event was held at the Wolf Creek Park in Foley. Here games such as The Wheel of Caches, Geo Human Bingo, and Geo Wordsearch were played. Prize tickets were earned for each of the games and over 65 prizes were handed out to those in attendance.

On Sunday, March 11, 2018, a CITO (Cache In/Trash Out) event was held. This is the way geocachers thank the area for allowing them to come in and have events and hide caches. Trash was picked up from along the Foley Beach Express. Quite a lot was found and returned to the Foley Public Library for pick up by the City’s Sanitation Department on Monday morning.

Please watch for next year’s Foley Geo Weekend at the end of February. It is sure to bring in lots of local geocachers as well as snowbird geocachers. Check the Foley Public Library website, www.foleylibrary.org, for this and other fun programs throughout the year.
