Claire Andrews Spencer passed away at home on Sunday, May 26, 2019 in Fairhope, Alabama.

Irma Claire Andrews Spencer was born on Jan. 17, 1932 to Virginia White Andrews and Tully Andrews in Dothan, Alabama, however, she grew up in Wetumpka, Alabama.

She was married to Dr. Lester Spencer Sr. on Sept. 2, 1950 at Lafayette Street Methodist Church in Dothan, Alabama.

Claire was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lester Spencer Sr.; her parents, Virginia and Tully Andrews; her brothers, Burnell (Brother) Andrews, Tully Andrews, Phillip Andrews; and her sister, Jeanette Andrews  Schabel.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Spencer Flynn Wright; and her son, Dr. Lester Harden Spencer Jr. and his wife Janeese Spencer. She has six grandchildren, Laura Flynn Steele and her husband Jeremy, Sean Flynn, Sarah Flynn Cranton and her husband, Bryan, Harden Spencer, Ciara Spencer Perkins and her husband Alex and Joshua Spencer. She also has seven great-grandchildren; along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Claire was a United Methodist pastor's wife, and she served faithfully with her husband in the Alabama-West Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church for four decades. Together they served the Perote Circuit, Opp Memorial/West End Andalusia UMC, Smiths Station UMC, Saint Mark UMC in Mobile, Aldersgate UMC in Montgomery, the Demopolis District, the Mobile District, Dothan First UMC and Trinity UMC in Opelika.

She had an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and was blessed with a rich and long life.

Claire cherished her family and enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, Lester, along with other close friends. Her sweet spirit, her contagious laugh and her spiritual wisdom will be greatly missed by her loving family and her many friends!

The celebration of life service will be held at Fairhope UMC in Fairhope, Alabama on Thursday, May 30 at 2 p.m.

Visitation will also be at Fairhope UMC from 1-2 p.m.

The service will be officiated by Dr. Ed Glaize, senior pastor of Fairhope UMC, and Rev Walter Albritton, a lifelong friend.

The United Methodist Pastors of the Alabama-West Florida Annual Conference are invited to be honorary pallbearers.
