Heaven has gained a beautiful soul. Clarice Smith Bowers Blackwood, age 74, a native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, a former resident of St. Amant, Louisiana and a current resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Clarice was a loving wife, mother, Nana/Grandmother and great friend to all.
She was retiree of Ciba Specialties. She was a Master Gardener and a member of Wisteria Garden Club, a member of Community Bible Study of Fairhope, a past president and member of Friends of Fairhope Library, an active member of Fairhope Baptist Church and Cornerstone Sunday School class, as well as a volunteer with First Hope.
She was an excellent seamstress and a perfect hostess who loved to entertain her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bert Smith and Minnie Smith Devore; first husband, James A. "Jimmy" Bowers Jr; brother, C. Warfield Smith; sister, Jean Tate.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Blackwood of Fairhope; daughters, Beverly (Tracy) James and Belinda (Clint) Guillot, all of Gonzales, Louisiana; son, James "Trey" (Jill Jones) Bowers of Burleson, Texas; stepdaughter, Nancy (Gene) Capasse of Olathe, Kansas; stepson, Mark (Amy) Blackwood of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Chaz Bruno, Cody and Gracie Guillot, Caroline Bowers, Patrick (Meredith) and Christopher Capasse and Jessica James; great-grandson, Canyon Robertson; brother, Charles Rogers of Vicksburg, Mississippi; numerous nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, Alabama from 5-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Fairhope.
Mrs. Blackwood will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Children's Ministry at First Baptist Fairhope.
