DAPHNE, Ala. — A victory by Daphne was all but assured very early on in their contest Friday night against visiting B.C. Rain. The Trojans (4-2, 3-1) easily overwhelmed the Red Raiders (4-2, 2-1) in a 50-3 thumping.

Quarterback Chance Newman had a stellar showing for Daphne finishing the night 9 of 16 in the air for 170 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also scored on a 1-yard run for the final points of the night.

The tone was set for the game very early when B.C. Rain quarterback Cliff Powell was unable to complete a handoff from deep in his own territory, resulting in a fumble. The Trojan defense recovered the fumble in the endzone to take a 7-0 lead just 18 seconds into the contest.

On Daphne's first drive, Newman hit Christian Williams for a 32-yard gain. Two plays later, Newman found Myles Henderson for a 19-yard score. With a converted two-point conversion, the Trojans led 15-0.

B.C. Rain's hopes went out the window when Powell went down hard midway through the second quarter. He suffered a broken hand and did not return to the contest. On his final drive, the Red Raiders scored a field goal to trim the lead to 15-3.

The Trojans smelled blood and began to pour it on their defenseless opponents. Tim Taylor took a direct snap on the ensuing drive and took it 4 yards into the end zone to extend the lead to 22-3. Newman threw his second touchdown of the night, a 15-yarder on a screen pass, to put Daphne ahead 29-3 at the half.

Offensively the Trojans didn't skip a beat on the opening drive of the third quarter when Newman tossed another score to Williams to push the lead to 36-3.

Daphne's defense continued to play winning football when linebacker LT Eitner recovered a fumble at the Red Raider 14-yard line to put his team in scoring position once again. Newman capitalized with another 14-yard score, this one to Latrius Batiste, to push the score to 43-3.

Newman's final touchdown of the night capped a 94-yard drive to mercifully end the scoring at 50-3. B.C. Rain will welcome a home game against winless Robertsdale next week. Daphne travels to Gulf Shores to take on the also winless Dolphins.
