David Carter Wood, age 71, a lifelong resident of Fairhope, Alabama, passed away on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019.

He attended and graduated from The University of Alabama with a degree in business administration and finance and was a diehard supporter of The Crimson Tide.

David was a master craftsman, an avid outdoorsmen and grew up playing many different sports with his two brothers. He excelled in basketball and was inducted into the Fairhope High School Hall of Fame and was also named an Alabama All-State honorable mention in 1966.

Most would say he never met a stranger and certainly knew how to work a room, which was evident during his working career employed by Baldwin County and serving his community.

He spent many years coaching different sports and touching the lives of many young children around Fairhope.

He was a proud family man who never failed to shower his wife, children and five grandkids with unconditional love.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Gwen Wood of Fairhope, Alabama; one daughter, Kim (Saed) El-Amin of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; two sons, David ( Jana) Wood II of Atlanta, Georgia and John Wood of Fairhope, Alabama; older brother, Cliff Wood of Las Vegas, Nevada; twin brother, Bruce (Alysia) Wood of Suwanee, Georgia; five grandchildren, Maddie, Mason, Carter, Ethan and Camilla, and one expected in November; nieces, nephew other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 from 6-8 p.m. at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope.

A celebration of David's life will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019 at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope at 11 a.m.

Private inurnment will be held at Memory Gardens of Fairhope.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation to the American Heart Association.
