GULF SHORES -- Olivia Coaker and Mackenzie Brasher, incoming seniors at Gulf Shores High have committed to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte which competes in Conference USA. Coaker has been also named to the North-South All-Star Team this summer representing the South club.

Both players recorded some impressive statistics last season for the GSHS Dolphins. Coaker hit .493 with 63 RBIs, seven home runs, five triples and 22 doubles to finish with a slugging percentage of .871 and 51 runs scored.

Brasher hit .478 with 77 total hits (14 doubles, three triples, one homer) for 24 RBIs and slugged for .621. She also burned the bases with 41 steals and scored 74 runs for the ‘Phins’ attack.

Coaker’s primary defensive position is at second base and she also pitches. She was named Offensive Player of the Year for the Dolphins. Brasher primarily defends centerfield and received the Defensive Player of the Year Award for GSHS. They will each have official signing ceremonies during the 2018-19 school year.

The North-South softball doubleheader will be at Montgomery's Lagoon Park Tuesday, July 17, with the first game set for 6 p.m. The second game will follow approximately at 8 p.m.
