DONALD MURRAY WETTLAUFER

August 26, 1922 – August 14. 2020

A resident of Fairhope, AL since 1989, Murray was born in Lindsay, Ontario, Canada to the late Nelson James and Lillian Murray Wettlaufer. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Norma Hayes Wettlaufer; two younger brothers, Ross and Allen Wettlaufer. He is survived by his daughter Patricia “Pat” Suzanne (Larry) Hutchison of Powell OH and his son Roger Bruce (Jo Ann) Wettlaufer of Fairhope, AL; 2 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 2 nephews and 1 niece. A Canadian citizen when WWII began, Murray joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a pilot from 1941-1946. After the war, he received an associate degree in leather processing and spent his career working in both the leather tanning industry and titanium manufacturing. He and Norma along with daughter Pat emigrated from Canada to the US in 1950 and became US citizens. Roger was born in the US that year. Murray lived with his family in Ashtabula OH for 35 years. When he retired in 1989 from Reactive Metals Inc, he and Norma moved to Fairhope. Murray and Norma were active in their church, Trinity Presbyterian in Fairhope. Both especially enjoyed volunteering with the youth of the church. Murray served for a period as an elder. He was also involved in various community service activities, including the Literacy Council, Friends of the Fairhope Public Library and Fairhope First.

Murray requested cremation and his ashes will be buried next to Norma’s in Ashtabula, OH. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 545 S. Mobile Street, Fairhope, AL 36532
