Doris May Thomas Schnieders passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2017, and was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, James (Jimmy) Shriver Schnieders.

She was born in Mobile, Alabama on June 10, 1920. Her parents were Charlie T. and Ada Bolton Thomas.

She is survived by her sons, James (Betsy) of New Orleans, Louisiana and Tom (Julie) of Liberty, Missouri; as well as 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Doris met and married Jimmy just prior to World War II while he was stationed at Brookley Field in Mobile, and they were the epitome of the greatest generation. Having moved frequently while Jimmy was in the U.S. Air Force, they settled in Albany, Georgia and eventually in Foley, Alabama.

They invested most of their free time in the family and especially enjoyed traveling with their children and grandchildren. Doris was very active in church functions, the Legion of Mary and was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Foley.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to one on the following: St. Margaret of Scotland Church, the Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education in New Orleans, or Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
