Dorothy "Dot" Rose Groves Hanson, 89, born in West Helena, Arkansas on Jan. 28, 1930, passed away June 11, 2019.

Dot attended Springhill High School (Louisiana). She earned an associate degree in business from Southern State College in Magnolia, Arkansas. She returned to college and received her BA in English with a minor in Spanish.

She taught English at Shongaloo High School in Louisiana and then went on to teach English and Spanish at Springhill High School.

Dot and her husband, WL, relocated to the Mobile area in 1978. She taught business courses at 21st Century Business College before retiring to the Eastern Shore in Daphne.

Dot served on the board of the Eastern Shore Literacy Council and tutored adults in reading.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, a member of the Lake Forest Ladies Club and actively supported the Baldwin County Humane Society. She and her husband were members of the Etruscans Carnival Organization.

She was preceded in death by her husband, WL Hanson; and a son, Timothy Lee Hanson.

Dot is survived by her son, Steven G (Darla) Hanson; daughter-in-law, Beverly Hanson; grandchildren, Dr. Patrick Hanson, Dr. Meaghan Hanson, Graham Hanson, Madison Hanson.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Daphne.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Interment will follow in Jubilee Memorial Gardens in Daphne.
