Dr. James "Russell" Eubanks Jr., age 82, a resident of Spanish Fort, Alabama, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Gerry" Eubanks of Spanish Fort; daughters, Lisa Hollingsworth (Chuck) of Malbis, Cheryl Eubanks of Daphne and Melissa Eubanks of Germantown, Tennessee; son, James Eubanks (Mindy) of Eight Mile, Alabama; grandchildren, John, Andrew and Grace Hollingsworth, Lauren and Emily Corte, Robert and Jamie Eubanks, Amber Myers (Steven), Kyle Eubanks, Jerred Brown (Brittany), Jennifer Hutto (Lee); one great-grandchild; seven step-great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Robert "Bob" Eubanks, (Sue); niece, Kristy Eubanks; and nephew, Dr. Rob Eubanks (Elizabeth).

Russell graduated from Murphy High School in 1953. He attended Wilson Junior College in Chicago, received bachelor degrees from both Emory University and University of Arkansas.

While attending Emory, he met his sweetheart, Gerry, and they married in June of 1959. He graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1963 and began his internship at Arkansas Baptist Hospital. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at University of Arkansas Medical Center.

Russell and Gerry moved to Mobile in July of 1966, where he began his private practice with Lane, Bryant and Eubanks. He joined Thomas Hospital in 1983 and continued there until 1996. He left that practice to focus on pain management until his "retirement" in 1999, when he became medical director of Thomas Hospital Cardiac Rehab.

He served as president, Alabama Society of Anesthesiologists; president, Medical Staff, Providence Hospital; medical director, Respiratory Therapy state of Alabama; medical director, Pulmonary Lab Providence Hospital; president-elect, Doctors Hospital; chairman, Board of Trustees, Knollwood Hospital; Board of Trustees, Mobile College; president, Baldwin County Medical Society; co-director, Operation Bounce-Back; and director, Cardiac Health and Rehab Center at Thomas Hospital; deacon, Springhill Baptist Church in Mobile and deacon emeritus at First Baptist Church Fairhope.

He volunteered his service on multiple mission trips, both domestic and foreign; facilitated Grief Share classes and formed the Sunset Mountain Boys banjo and singing group. He received the L.E. Rockwell Memorial Meritorious Service Award from the Rotary Club of Fairhope.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Children's Building Fund at First Baptist Church Fairhope.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 14, 2018 at Wolfe-Bayview Funeral Home, Fairhope, from 5 until 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Fairhope.

Dr. Eubanks will lie in state one hour prior to service time.

Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Fairhope.
