ECCC’s Thomas Boothe Named MACJC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

After throwing a nine-inning no-hitter and picking up a save in two appearances on the mound, East Central Community College right-hander Thomas Boothe has been voted the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges Baseball Pitcher of the Week for April 1-7.

The sophomore out of Bayside Academy in Fairhope, Ala., pitched a nine-inning no-hitter to power the ECCC Warriors to a 4-0 opening game win in an MACJC baseball doubleheader sweep over the Northeast Tigers Saturday, April 6, at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex on the ECCC campus in Decatur.

The 6-8 Boothe was dominant in the win. He struck out 14 Northeast batters and set the Tigers down in order in five of the nine innings. He threw just 127 pitches in the game to pick up his fourth win of the season against just one loss.

Earlier in the week, Boothe earned a save as he came to the mound in the top of the ninth with two on and no outs to help preserve East Central’s 5-4 win over No. 7 ranked Jones College on April 2. He retired three of the four batters he faced in that one-inning appearance.

In 38 and two thirds innings on the mound this year, Boothe has 53 strikeouts.

Boothe becomes the second East Central pitcher to win the award this season. Freshman right-hander Tanner Knight out of Eupora won the honor for the week of Feb. 25-March 3.
