Edward H. “Ted” Stoddard

Edward H. "Ted" Stoddard, an educator and one-time band director at Foley High School, died Feb. 15 at his home in Foley. He was 81.

Ted was born in Evanston, Illinois, but moved with his mother and siblings to Magnolia Springs in 1944.

His mother, Doris H. Rich; and his stepfather, Oscar Rich; predeceased him.

Ted was graduated from Foley High School. He earned a B.A. degree from Troy State, a master's degree in music from North Texas State and an E.d.D. from the University of North Carolina.

He taught school for many years in the state of Louisiana and was Teacher of the Year in Jefferson Parish in 1981.

Ted joined the Alabama National Guard when he was 18 and retired after 30 years as a master sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He is survived by his brothers, Tom Stoddard, Birmingham, Bob Stoddard, Foley, and Oscar B. Rich Jr., Merritt Island, Florida.

Family and friends will gather for a brief memorial at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at Pine Rest Cemetery.
