Elizabeth Ann McClendon Fendley, age 87, born in Saint Clair Springs, Alabama to Perkins and Annie Virginia Teague McClendon, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017 at her residence in Bay Minette.

Mrs. Fendley had a wonderful childhood in Ashville, Alabama and she loved her family very much.

She graduated from Ashville High School in 1948. She attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn) where she received a degree in physical education.

She married and had five children then began her career in social work. She was a social worker in Baldwin County and became the director of the Department of Human Resources in 1975, a job she held until 1997 when she retired. She loved her work and the people that she worked with.

She loved the Auburn Tigers and attended as many football games as she could. She attended the First Baptist Church in Bay Minette where she taught preschool Sunday school for 45 years.

She enjoyed traveling and made many trips in the U.S and abroad. She also enjoyed reading, working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Fendley will be remembered for her kindness, compassion and willingness to help anyone in need. She was loved very much and will be missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Jan Fendley (Ray) Spreen of Houston, Texas, Gary Lester Fendley of Lexington, Kentucky, Rhonda Fendley (Tom) Fouts of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Elizabeth "Beth" Fendley Sudduth of Bay Minette, Alabama and Robert Perkins (Tonya) Fendley of Fairhope, Alabama; 10 grandchildren, William Stone, Stefanie Fendley, Casey Spreen, Jacob Halpin, Noah Fouts, Alex Fouts, Tal Sudduth, Christopher Fendley, Lauren Fendley and Ryan Fendley; and one great-grandson, Ryder Stone.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Lester Fendley; and her siblings, Perkins McClendon, Mary McClendon Fouts, John Edward McClendon and Martha McClendon.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Chip Starnes officiating.

Burial will follow at Bay Minette Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday, Oct. 9, 2017 from 1 until 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Kim Perez, Cynthia Dunn, Christabelle Lynd, Kathy Pennington and Faye Lee for their love and kindness as they cared for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, AL 35236-1767.
