Fairhope business owner Karin Wilson has announced her candidacy for mayor of Fairhope ahead of the municipal elections set for Aug. 23. Wilson celebrated her campaign kickoff event Friday, July 22 from at The Book Cellar at Page and Palette. A graduate of Fairhope High School and Auburn University, Wilson spent seven years working in the financial sector before returning home to purchase Page and Palette Bookstore from her grandmother, Betty Joe Wolff, in 1997. With her extensive background in finance, Wilson has been able to run a business that stays true to Fairhope’s unique character while managing the new challenges and complexities faced in today’s market. “We choose to live in Fairhope because of our city’s legacy and sense of community,” Wilson said. “We have something special that other cities try to duplicate, and we have lots of people who want to be a part of it. But we have a responsibility to protect and control growth.” Wilson said Fairhope is at a critical crossroads, with inappropriate land development threatening our quality of life—one of the biggest concerns motivating her to enter the mayoral race. “We need a fiscal conservative qualified to prioritize spending, preserve our character and our nonrenewable resources—someone who understands how to build upon what we already possess,” Wilson said. “I want Fairhope to be the city that brought me home, that brings our children and their children home.” Wilson said that she looks forward to talking with voters and working together to enhance the trajectory of the community and to be a catalyst for the good of Fairhope.
