Fire damages local business

ROBERTSDALE, Alabama — A fire over the Christmas holiday weekend caused significant damage to a Robertsdale business.

Robertsdale Fire Chief James Bauer said his department, along with firefighters from Silverhill and Loxley were called to the scene of a fire at the Vinyl & T-Shirt Shop late Friday at the intersection of Alabama 59 Northbound and Wilters Street. Rosinton and Elsanor fire departments were also called to assist, Bauer said.

“When I got there it was pretty much fully involved,” he said. “Thanks to the cooperation of everyone involved we were able to have the fire completely contained in about 20 minutes.”

Bauer said he would not consider the damage to be a total loss because the roof and walls of the structure were still standing, but for insurance purposes, because of water and smoke damage, it would probably be considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is undetermined, Bauer said, but no foul play is suspected so it is unlikely an investigation will be conducted. Reports have estimated the damage at upwards of $200,000.
