LOXLEY, Alabama -- Baldwin County honored its fallen heroes on Monday, May 27 by carrying the American Flag and the Armed Forces Flag from Daphne to Orange Beach.

Municipal police escorted groups of runners carrying the flags as they handed them off every three miles to the next group.

The relay featured two routes, one beginning at U.S. 98 and U.S 90 in Daphne, continuing on U.S. 90 to Alabama 59 in Loxley, where the runners passed through Robertsdale and Summerdale, ending at the Beach Express in Foley.

A second route followed along Alabama 59 from the Foley Beach Express to Orange Beach.

Signs featuring fallen service members lined the route. These signs featured a picture and information of the fallen while also serving as mile markers along the route. With the hero’s information, the signs could be purchased and printed through CostaPrints. A portion of the proceeds from sign purchases went toward The Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort Foundation Inc. The signs went to the purchaser following the relay run.

Funds raised from the relay will be directly donated to The Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spanish Fort Foundation Inc.

A Go Fund Me page, created by Tyler York, has been set up at https://www.gofundme.com/memorial-day-flag-relay-run. As of Tuesday, May 28, $530 of the $3,000 was met.
