Foley Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade will roll in December

FOLEY - The Annual Foley Kiwanis Club Christmas Parade has been given the green-light and will be rolling through the streets of downtown Foley on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 10 a.m. The parade will follow the same route as in previous years. Lineup will begin at 8 a.m. between the Foley Armory and the Foley Public Library. The Foley Kiwanis Club is asking that those in attendance follow state guidelines concerning COVID-19 at the time of the parade.

Applications are now being accepted for those who would like to participate. Lineup is done on a first come, first serve basis. The traditional starting lineup, including the grand marshal, are the only riders to have reserved spots. For all other participants, when you arrive you will be placed in the next available spot and given a number that corresponds with that placement. Participants are asked to arrive by 9:30 to receive their placement and number.

Floats can be any holiday/seasonal theme participants wish, with only one exception they are to follow: please don’t use Santa or Mrs. Claus. The Kiwanis Club has secured both Santa and Mrs. Claus to ride at the parade’s finale, and ask that no one else feature them on their floats.

Judges will be watching the parade to review the floats in two categories: commercial and noncommercial. Foley Public Library Director John Jackson will reach out to winners within the weeks following the parade about receiving their awards.

Those who would like to fill out an application are welcome to visit FoleyKiwanisClub.com to print and complete the form available there. You can either scan the document and email it to the Kiwanis Club (link on the website) or Jackson (jjackson@cityoffoley.org), drop off the completed form at the Foley Public Library (319 East Laurel Avenue) for Jackson, or give him a call at 251-943-1032 to sign up via phone. Check out the Kiwanis Club of Foley on Facebook for additional information. The club meets every Tuesday at Vallarta’s at noon, and Jackson invites anyone interested in volunteering with the parade or speaking with the members to join them for lunch at that time. The parade is free to participate.
