UPDATE:

Late in the afternoon on Thursday, May 9, Elberta police were able to locate William McGinley in the Miflin community. McGinley was being pursued by law enforcement after leading police on a high-speed chase earlier that morning, and was facing charges including eluding the police. McGinley was in a white pickup that was later confirmed to be stolen from the city of Foley.

McGinley fled into Florida after being found. Due to his identity being known, officers did not pursue. The Foley Fugitive Tracking Team worked with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office to locate McGinley and the truck near Highway 98 and Fairfield Drive, where they established surveillance on him. The pickup appeared to be failing from the damage inflicted during McGinley’s reckless driving as he made his way back into Alabama.

As McGinley crossed the Alabama line into Lillian, the Sheriff’s Office and Foley officers tailed him, and approached as the pickup slowed from mechanical failure. McGinley attempted to elude police on foot and physically resisted officers once he was caught. He was arrested without further incident.

Additional evidence was located within the vehicle indicating possible involvement with other crimes. The police are investigating possible further charges at this time.

McGinley faces multiple charges, including: Felony Receiving Stole Property first degree, Attempting to Elude, and numerous traffic violations.

Original Release:

The pursuit was called off on Highway 98 just east of Elberta after the subject was captured on police in-car video taunting the officers as he passed by a pursuing unit.
