Foley Woman’s Club holds Baskets & BINGO

FOLEY - The Foley Woman’s Club recently held its annual Baskets and BINGO February meeting, allowing members to show off the baskets they’ve created to be sold during the auction at the upcoming Mad Hatters’ Event. During the meeting members were given the chance to vote for their favorite basket and gift item.

This year, Kathleen Roberts took first place in the basket contest, and Beth McNair took the prize for gift item. After the contest, members played a few rounds of BINGO, with the three winners receiving a prize.

Next year will see openings for secretary and first vice president in charge of programs. The next meeting will be held on March 2 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (508 North Pine Street, Foley.)

March 18 will see the club’s 15th Annual Mad Hatters’ Event taking place at the Foley Civic Center. Doors will open at 10 a.m., and the club is looking to break last year’s record of raising $22,000. Since the first event held in 2006 the Mad Hatters’ Event has raised over $175,000. All proceeds go to local women and children’s organizations in the area.

This year’s theme will be World of Books and will feature tables decorated with different book themes. Tickets for this year’s event are $25 and include a lite lunch and tons of entertainment. Bo Grant, lead singer of The Platters, will perform on stage, and attendees can enjoy a silent auction, gift raffles, a fashion show, $500 Pot-of-Gold, and of course, the famous hat parade and hat contest. Categories for the contest include “Most Creative Theme,” “Wackiest,” and “Most Glamourous.”
