FOLEY - The Foley Woman’s Club kicked off its 2019-2020 year with a special luncheon on Mon., Sept. 9 at Sweet Southern Scratch. The luncheon featured guest speaker John Koniar, Foley mayor, who gave an update on the state of Foley and the things that have happened over the year since the 2018 kick off.

The 2019-2020 elected officers for the Foley Woman’s Club are: President Kelly Barrett; First Vice President Sylvia Womack; Second Vice President Joanna James; Recording Secretary Sheila Morgan; Treasurer Christine Anglin; Assistant Treasurer Lora Daniels; Corresponding Secretary Marilyn Mosley; and Parliamentarian Barbara McCamish.

During the event, the club voted on the distribution of the funds raised by the Annual Mad Hatters Event, the club’s only yearly fundraiser. The proceeds go to women’s and children’s organizations in the county. For the 2019 event, over $20,000 was raised and the donations will be handed out during the October meeting. Looking to the 2020 Mad Hatters Event, $190 has already been collected thanks to special dime bottles that club members place out in the community. The club will be doing the Dime Bottle Challenge this year, with a prize going to the member who raises the most funds through dime bottles. The goal is to raise $2,000 through dime bottles that will go towards the 2020 donations.

The theme for next year’s Mad Hatters Event is World of Books, and each table will be decorated based off the club members’ favorite classic novels and children’s books. The books that will be featured will be announced during the October meeting.

A big announcement made at the meeting was the creation of new Associate Memberships, which cost $20 for the year.

“This will be for those people who want to be part of the club but cannot commit to a fulltime membership,” said Barrett. “Associate Members will promote our organization, they can come to the meetings or events at any time they want to, or they don’t have to come at all. We’ve had people who have wanted to join the club but were unable to commit to the monthly meetings or being a hostess or joining a committee, so now they can become Associate Members.”

Associate Members will have the ability to join in the club in every way a fulltime member does except they will be unable to vote for officers or hold a chair position.

The Foley Woman’s Club is also now a member with the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, giving its members the ability to attend chamber events or business after hours.

The Foley Woman’s Club meets monthly from September to May on the first Monday of each month. Most meetings are held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (506 North Pine Street, Foley) at 2 p.m. For more information on joining the club, contact foleywomansclub@gmail.com or visit the club on Facebook.
