FOLEY - The City of Foley Public Works Department and contractors continue to work diligently cleaning up debris from Hurricane Sally. Since operations began on Sept. 16, crews have collected over 899,000 cubic yards of debris inside the Foley city limits.

The final pass for the City of Foley's Hurricane Sally debris collection began Nov. 30 and will continue until all streets have been verified as cleared of limbs and bulk debris. Due to the specialized equipment required, stumps will continue to be picked up after regular debris piles have been cleared. As roads are cleared, regular yard debris and bulk item pickup schedules will resume. Residents should be aware of the City Ordinances concerning pile size and type during the transition back to pick up by the Sanitation Department. Each household is allowed up to six cubic yards each of yard debris and bulk items per week.

Yard Debris consists of vegetative waste such as tree branches, leaves, logs and plants. These items may not exceed six feet in length or six inches in diameter, and if you wish to bag them, they must be in biodegradable paper bags.

Bulk Items may include the following:

• Electronics such as televisions, computers, stereos, phones and DVD players.
• Large appliances such as refrigerators, washer/dryers, air conditioners, stoves, water heaters and dishwashers.
• Construction debris such as building materials, drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture and plumbing.

As always, Household garbage (such as bagged garbage and discarded food) as well as Recycling (clean cardboard, paper, plastic jugs and bottles) should be placed in the appropriate trash receptacle and on the curb by 6 a.m. on the scheduled pickup day.

Please note that Hazardous materials (such as oil, battery, pesticide, paint, cleaning supplies and compressed gas) may no longer be placed on the curb for pick up since the cutoff on Nov. 30. Additionally, contractors have also resumed full responsibility for hauling off any job site debris.

As a reminder, debris should not block the roadway and avoid trees, mailboxes, poles and other structures. We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews continue to work diligently to remove all remaining debris as safely and efficiently as possible.
